“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we[a] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:10-12).”
As I said in yesterday’s post, the battle is won, we are redeemed and reconciled back to God. But then, we are in a spiritual battle against the enemy who is relentless in his agenda to hinder the kingdom of God from reigning in our lives and in the earth. (Matthew 6:10).
You see, the nature of the fight we are in, if I may describe it in natural military language, is more or less a “Guerrilla Warfare.” Take a look at this excerpt from Britannica Encyclopaedia about the tactics behind this type of warfare. “The broad strategy underlying successful guerrilla warfare is that of protracted harassment accomplished by extremely subtle, flexible tactics designed to wear down the enemy…”
Guerrilla warfare is fought by a weaker opponent against a much stronger force than itself, by laying ambushes and attacks against the stronger opponent. It begins by aiming for the weak and vulnerable areas in it’s stronger opponent. Then, it begins edging it’s way in, in a gradual and subtle fashion, until it weakens it, and then, destroys the stronger opponent!
That is the strategy of the enemy against the children of God. He looks for the ‘weakest link.’ in our ‘soulish’ area and begins it’s guerrilla warfare tactics on us. Gaining grounds little by little, until we become weak enough for him to overpower and defeat us.
The sad thing is that many of us are too busy with worrying and caring about the things of this world, that we forget about the severity of the battle the demonic forces are waging against us in the spiritual realm! (1 Peter 5:8); (Matthew 6:25-34).
Our battle as believers is not physical, we are not fighting individuals, political ideologies, human psychology or any world system for that matter, but it’s spiritual and against the demonic forces working through people and this world systems! (Ephesians 6:12).
And the battlefield is “The Mind.” Our battles begin with our THOUGHTS. You see, the mind is influenced by what we See, Hear, Feel and Meditate on. The strategy of the enemy then is to cause us to take our eyes off God, and put it on our natural strength, weaknesses and limited abilities.
This has always been the strategy of the enemy from day one. This was how he edged and manoeuvred his way in on Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, by causing them to take their focus off God ‘s Word (Genesis 2:16-17) and they started ‘reasoning’ things in their natural thought and fell for the devil’s temptation.
We cannot fight the enemy with our natural strength and limited abilities! This is impossible! We cannot fight principalities, power and spiritual forces of wickedness at work against us with any human strength or human resources. That is why Paul tells us to be “Strong in the Lord and in the power of God’s might.” (Ephesians 6:1). If we want to win the spiritual battle we are in, we must stop depending on our own natural abilities and Put on God’s strength!
Prayer Confession:Heavenly Father thank you that you have won the battle and the victory is already mine by faith. You have called me to walk by faith and not by sight. Thank you that the life in me is the supernatural Life of Christ. Therefore I refuse to worry because You care for me. I reject the lies of the devil. My mind is furnished with the Truth of God’s word. My strength comes from what God says about my circumstances. My victory is sealed with the blood of Jesus. God is working in my life turning all my battles into victories in Jesus name. I walk by faith in the strength of God in every area of my life. My mind is fixed on Jesus the author and perfector of my faith. And I am more than a conqueror. In Jesus name. Amen!
Reflections: “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).
