Dealing With Oppressive Hold

“We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

We need to be armed in dealing with oppressive stronghold in Spiritual Warfare. The Bible says to cast down imaginations or schemes. It is important we don’t take this lightly because every attack of the devil starts with a thought. The devil puts a thought in our minds to arouse our imaginations, when we begin to meditate on the thought, our emotions gets caught up with the thought.  Then it becomes easy to agree with the thought. Once we agree with the thought it becomes something similar to a brick wall around us.  And now the devil has succeeded in using his “scheme” to hold us back and lead us in his own direction instead of God’s direction.

This is what 2 Corinthians 10:4 calls strongholds. It is a hideout from where evil spirits can operate in our lives and through us. Revelation 18:2 describes such holds as similar to fallen Babylon. “a dwelling place of demons, prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird” If we are passive with our thoughts we can allow the devil to build a castle in our minds. This is how we develop wrong images of our selves, depression, false doctrines, ideologies such as Communism, Marxism, Islam and others are built brick by brick in the mind. 2 Corinthians 10:5 describes these thoughts as hostile, something lifted up or exalted against God.

Therefore, it is important to challenge our thoughts and recognise which thought is from God and what is from the devil. If a thought is opposite God’s Word we should take authority over it before we state to meditate on it. Sometime we may find that a particular thought is persistent or we are dealing with an obsessive and harassing thought. We should be proactive about dealing with that thought by praying out loud.

If  for example you are dealing with a sickness, and you cannot get rid of the thought saying things like, “there is no hope for you” “you are going to get worse” “You are going to die” pray out loud by saying something like this, “you evil thought, you are not from God, I bind you in Jesus name. God has not given me the spirit of fear, but the Spirit of power , love and a sound mind. The Word of God declares in Isaiah 53:5, that Jesus was wounded for my transgressions, bruised for my iniquities, the chastisement for my peace was upon Him and by His stripes I was healed. I have the LIFE of Christ. I shall live and not die in Jesus name.”

And keep standing on the Word against those thoughts by praying scriptures in line with your need. Pray in tongues or sing praises to God or slot in a worship music and fill that place in your mind with the presence of God. You may have to pray like this several times but if you are persistent, you will breakthrough as you continue to fill your mind with the Word and submit to God. The Bible says, we overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. (Revelations 12:11).

Prayer Confessions:Heavenly Father thank you for the cross of Jesus Christ. I will praise you with my life for your love, mercy and forgiveness. Thank you that I overcome every satanic manoeuvring over my mind by the Blood of Jesus Christ and your Word. I cast down every disobedient thought. I break down brick walls of Satanic stronghold over my life and family. I call up all my buried treasures and stolen blessings to be restored in Jesus name. Every arrow fired against my body to terminate my life I bind you in Jesus name. I receive divine life, solution and progress.  In Jesus Name. Amen

Reflection: "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!" (Isaiah 26:3 ).
